Business Director, Shanghai

What you will be doing

MING Labs is looking for a new Business Director (based in Shanghai) to join our lovely team in China!

MING Labs is a human-centred innovation company. Within China we have been helping Ford, Panasonic, Logitech, BASF & many more in using business design, UX design and technology to realise opportunities from digital transformation.

As our Business Director for the China office, you will be cooperating closely with our COO and lead our China Project Management and Business Development teams. You will take ownership of our daily operations to ensure continued growth and financial success across both Shanghai & Suzhou offices.

Your specific responsibilities would include:

Operations - 40%

Take full responsibility for the commercial success of China operations across all projects:

1. Lead Project Management team and delegate responsibilities as appropriate.

2. Work to develop junior project management team members and provide ongoing support and feedback for their continued career growth.

3. Directly manage key projects as appropriate.

4. Provide support and guidance to less experienced project managers in the execution of their project responsibilities.

5. Maintain quality service by establishing and maintaining organizational standards.

6. Lead capacity planning and collaborate with the Project Management team to ensure that required assets and processes are in place.

Business Development - 40%

Ensure the continued growth of the China operations:

1. Act as a vital representative of the company, grow personal & business network while generating business leads.

2. Identify, build and maintain strategic key accounts.

3. Lead communication, and manage proposal generation in collaboration with functional teams (business design, UX design, development) for inbound sales opportunities.

4. Support marketing team in producing content for China-specific channels in order to raise MING profile in China.

Strategy - 10% 

Contribute to the strategic planning of MING Labs China and participate in strategic planning for the global company:

1. Drive strategic analysis cycle for China operations by using adequate processes and tools.

2. Advise senior management on setting strategic objectives and work to ensure their achievement through adequate action steps and follow-up.

3. Proactively suggest & take responsibility for global strategic initiatives in conjunction with global leads.

Finance - 10%

Collaborate with COO to ensure the financial success and sustainability of China operations:

1. Collaborate in the setting of budgets and establish financial plans and objectives.

2. Support COO in the data collection and input for the China P&L.

How to measure your success in the role?

1. China total business sales and growth targets.

2. Client satisfaction and return rates.

3. Project-level profitability targets.

4. China operations staff satisfaction and advocacy (NPS).

5. Key account sales growth.

6. New client acquisition targets (achieved via inbound and/or outbound).

What we are looking for?

A passion for design and digital innovation

8 years minimum of professional experience with a minimum of 3 years within a service agency

Experienced in working alongside strategists, UX designers and software engineers in the development of innovative digital solutions

Existing client relationships MING Labs China can benefit from

Strong language skills in English and Chinese
